Rangers Player Ratings vs Aberdeen: An Abject Performance Overall By The Gers

premier league

Rangers crashed out of the Betfred Cup on Sunday after their 1-0 loss at the hands of Aberdeen at the Hampden. Lewis Ferguson’s dazzling header proved to be the only difference between the Gers and the Dons.

Here is how we rated Steven Gerrard’s men after their disappointing defeat against Aberdeen.

Allan McGregor 6/10

The custodian did well to prevent Gary Mackay-Steven from finding the back of the net. He had no chance to stop the goal which he conceded.

James Tavernier 7/10

He was exceptional down the right and toiled relentlessly up and down the pitch. His brilliant shot from long range was saved by Joe Lewis.

Connor Goldson 6/10

Goldson was far from his best and it was a mistake from him which allowed Ferguson to score. However, he was good at moving the ball forward.

Joe Worrall 7/10

He imposed a commanding presence at the back and bettered his credentials with a resilient performance.

Jon Flanagan 6/10

He struggled for the major parts of the game while dealing with the threats showered by Mackay-Steven. He used the ball well later on during the game.

Lassana Coulibaly 6/10

Although he lacked energy initially, he eventually turned out to the engine room for the Teddy Bears in the middle of the park.

Ryan Jack 7/10

He operated from the deeper areas of the midfield. He moved the ball in an intelligent manner and was good with his positioning as well. Besides, he went very close to scoring just before the half time.

Ovie Ejaria 6/10

Ejaria was booked very early for his needless challenge on Scott Wright. However, he found his feet in the game and placed himself in dangerous positions frequently.

Daniel Candeias 6/10

He was superb down the right flank and was too good to handle for the Aberdeen defence on many occasions. His pace and trickery caused all sorts of trouble for the opposition.

Umar Sadiq 5/10

The centre-forward was terribly out of touch and using him up top was a surprising move at the onset. He was totally inefficient and was caught offside on a number of occasions.

Ryan Kent 6/10

He didn’t see enough of the ball and he couldn’t make enough of the chances he was handed to score.

Substitutions

Scott Arfield 5/10

He replaced Candeias on the 83 minute and despite making his presence felt after coming on, he couldn’t impose a thumping mark.

Glenn Middleton 5/10

Having replaced Jack with less than 10 minutes left on the clock, he couldn’t carve a moment of magic to save his side.
