Fletcher and Williams to start: Predicted 4-3-3 Stoke City lineup vs Swansea City 2

Despite Benik Afobe’s brace early in the first-half, Stoke City gave away their two-goal lead against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday and managed to muster just one point. Gary Rowett’s men are languishing near the relegation zone and pressure is certainly mounting on the manager.

On Tuesday, Stoke City are due to host Swansea City at bet365 Stadium in their next Championship fixture. The Swans are placed at the 6th spot in the league table with 11 points to their name after 7 games and it would be tough for Rowett’s men to outclass the Swans.

Stoke City Team News

James McClean is still out with his broken wrist and will not be available until the middle of October. Ibrahim Afellay and Sam Clucas are recovering from their knee injury and are out of contention. Apart from these three, Rowett has a fit squad to choose his starting line-up from.

Defence

Ryan Shawcross is expected to be one of the first names to find a place in Rowett’s starting XI. He is set to start in central defence after having mustered 1.3 tackles and 4.1 clearances per game on an average so far this season. The 30-year-old is likely to be partnered with Ashley Willams instead of Bruno Martins Indi.

Cuco Martina has looked comfortable while plying his trade from the right-back position and he is expected to keep his place. Meanwhile, Eric Pieters is likely to start once again from the left-back slot. His experience should come in handy for the Potters.

Jack Butland has seen a notable dip in his form this campaign and a lot more is expected from him. Although he is an excellent shot-stopper, he has lacked confidence and cracks have begun to appear in his game. Nonetheless, Rowett is expected to continue with him between the sticks for his side.

Midfield

Ryan Woods should get the green light to start in central midfield once again. While Joe Allen should keep his place on the left side of the midfield, we expect Darren Fletcher to replace Peter Etebo on the other side. In 5 league games, Fletcher has made 1.4 tackles per game on an average.

Attack

Afobe should spearhead Stoke City once again after his clinical performance against the Owls. Tom Ince’s supplies down the right flank have been notable and he should start once again. Mame Biram Diouf, who has registered 1 assist from 4 outings, is expected to start from the left wing.
