5 wins in 5 games: Liverpool player ratings vs Tottenham Hotspur

roberto firmino

Liverpool grabbed all three points from their trip to the Wembley earlier today. Goals from Gini Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino were enough as the Reds saw off a late rally from Tottenham as Eric Lamela pulled one back. Here are the Liverpool player ratings:

Alisson Becker (7)

With two crucial saves in each half and a few smart claims, the Brazilian was solid at the back and was unlucky not to keep another clean sheet.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (6.5)

Was quick to maraud on the right flank and did okay defensively as he dealt with Lucas Moura pretty well. Moura did hit the outside of the post once, but barring that, TAA had a solid afternoon.

Joe Gomez (7)

Solid at the back for most of the game but was caught out on more than a couple of occasions that could have hurt Liverpool if Spurs were on their ‘A-game’. But, did well to keep up with Lucas’ pace.

Virgil van Dijk (8)

Won almost everything thrown at him and put himself in the firing line when needed. Got the better of Harry Kane and kept Lucas quiet to win his side the game.

Andrew Robertson (7.5)

Yet another impressive performance from the Scot, who was involved in the build-up for both goals.

Georginio Wijnaldum (7)

Scored his first away goal in the Premier League and had a couple of half chances to test Vorm. Was also solid in a no.6 role, adding numbers to the backline when needed, making two clearances and a block.

James Milner (7)

Covered more distance and made more tackles than any other Liverpool player and his industry was one of the major reasons why Liverpool controlled the midfield.

Naby Keita (7)

Keita was a busy presence in the middle of the park for Liverpool that helped them in their transition. He wasn’t not afforded space or time to run with the ball to weave his magic in the final third.

Mohamed Salah (6.5)

Had an inconsistent start to the game but sprung to life in the last 20 minutes and should have put the game out of Spurs’ reach, even before stoppage time. He had three key passes to his name and was usually effective when in possession. His decision making needs to improve, though.

Sadio Mane (8)

Liverpool’s best attacker on the night, Mane was rusty in front of goal but his determination and grit made him a threat. He was involved in the build-up to Firmino’s goal.

Roberto Firmino (7.5)

As mentioned earlier, it was probably his best game for the Reds this season. Looked sharp and focused and is certainly ready for the big test against PSG. Helped himself to a tap-in with his smart movement and will want to continue his good run with a tough run of games coming up.

Substitutes

Jordan Henderson (5)

Had just 11 touches in the 20 minutes he got off the bench but he did make a block and a clearance to help his side to three crucial points.

Daniel Sturridge (5)

Had a few good moments in and around the box and seems ready to make an impact if given the chance.

Joel Matip (N/A)
