Tottenham Hotspur, surprisingly, made no additions to their armoury during the summer transfer window. Under the tutelage of Mauricio Pochettino, the North London based outfit were intriguing to watch last season but a couple of additions could have strengthened them further.
One of the players who was heavily linked with Spurs over the course of the transfer window was Aston Villa’s young gun Jack Grealish. The Championship side had placed a price tag of £40m on his collar but Spurs were rather interested to churn a deal for a much lower price by making full use of Aston Villa’s financial woes which emerged after their failure to earn promotion.
Pochettino’s camp was willing to shell out £25m to prise Grealish out of the Villa Park and there was a stage when even Steve Bruce admitted that he might lose the attacking midfielder. However, the scenery changed completely once Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens bought 55% of the club’s shares for £30m.
As a result, the new owners not only dismissed the bid of £25m from Spurs but also insisted that the 22-year-old is not for sale. While Spurs are regretting upon their failure to land Grealish, Aston Villa are preparing a new deal for Grealish, as per the Daily Star.
