Being Modest: Leeds United Hero Plays Down Promotion Talks

Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United engineered a spectacular 4-1 win over Derby County at the Pride Park Stadium last weekend. The Whites are now placed at the 2nd spot in the Championship table, 1 point behind Middlesbrough who have played a game more than the Yorkshire based outfit.

After a superb start to the season, their goal scorers against Frank Lampard’s troops, Mateusz Klich and Kemar Roofe, are apparently determined not to get carried away. According to them, two wins in a row cannot guarantee them their promotion to the Premier League.

“I hope we keep going because it’s a really nice way of playing football, but there are a lot of games to go,” Klich said after his side’s win over the Rams. Meanwhile, Roofe also reiterated his team-mate’s view and underlined what transpired last season.

He said: “We didn’t finish last season well at all and everyone was disappointed. But we’re only two games in. We can’t get carried away.” The Peacocks started the 2017-18 campaign strongly before withering away when fixtures came thick and fast after the first couple of months.

Nonetheless, the early glimpses have been appealing and Bielsa’s men need to carry on their momentum. Leeds United are due to entertain Bolton Wanderers at the Elland Road in the first round of the League Cup on Tuesday before hosting Rotherham on Saturday.
