Transfer Story
As per reports by Sky Sports, Crystal Palace are interested in signing Swansea City forward Jordan Ayew.
Earlier this summer, Swansea had rejected a bid of £8million for Ayew from Fulham, but the Cottagers are still in pursuit, so expect a transfer battle for the Ghanaian.
Jordan Ayew – Fact file and attributes
Ayew emerged through the youth ranks of Marseille and made a solid impression during his time with their senior side.
After a loan spell with Sochaux during the second half of the 2013-14 season, Ayew signed for Lorient and then moved to Aston Villa in the 2015 summer transfer window.
Following relegation with Villa, he waited half a season before signing for Swansea in January 2017. He mustered 36 Premier League appearances last season and managed to score 7 goals. However, he couldn’t prevent the Welsh outfit in retaining their top-flight status.
Ayew has also represented Ghana national side has quite a lot of experience on the international stage. Capable of plying his trade anywhere in the offensive line, Ayew is an astute passer of the ball as he likes to drop deep and combine with the midfield in the build-up play.
He is an excellent dribbler and his ability to drift inside and test defences is something that makes him a dangerous wide player. He isn’t just about attacking; Ayew is someone who often tracks back to help when the side are under the cosh and that will come in handy.
Should Hodgson Go All In?
Crystal Palace were in tatters during the first half of last season and it was only after the arrival of Roy Hodgson that they managed a few good results. Hodgson got the best out of most of his players and guided them to an 11th place finish in the league standings.
The Eagles haven’t done much business to bolster their squad. The departure of Cabaye has left a hole in the squad and the club decided to let Bakary Sako leave as well, so they need another attacker.
Lest we forget, Palace’s attack was heavily reliant on Wilfried Zaha last season and they need to more players who can consistently step up for the team.
Ayew’s versatility and ability up front should come in handy for Hodgson’s side. A move to Crystal Palace should appeal to Ayew too, as he would get the chance to perform in the Premier League once again.
