Arsenal suffered a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Manchester City in their opening Premier League fixture, and in all fairness, they deserved to lose due to their dismal performance. Unai Emery, unsurprisingly, went with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as his striker and Alexandre Lacazette was used as a substitute in the second half.
Notable, the Gunners imposed a lot of threat after the introduction of Lacazette as the French international gelled nicely with Aubameyang. Besides, Lacazette was doing a lot of defensive duties too and apparently, Aubameyang wants Unai Emery to start with both of them.
In fact, the former Borussia Dortmund striker has made it clear that he is even willing to play on the left to accommodate Lacazette up top. When asked about his relationship with the 27-year-old striker, Aubameyang told to ESPN: “We really get on well.”
“There is a spark between us when we are both on the pitch together. We look for each other, we saw it [on Sunday] against City when he came on. I don’t mind playing on the left if Laca is in the centre. We both want to do our best for the team.”
After an encouraging start to his Arsenal career following his move from Lyon last summer, Lacazette struggled for form during the later stages of last season. Besides, Aubameyang’s arrival from Borussia Dortmund contributed to his struggles further. Nonetheless, it will be exciting to see these two pairing up against Chelsea this weekend.
