Unai Emery’s era at Arsenal didn’t take off in a scintillating manner as his side succumbed to a 0-2 home defeat at the Emirates Stadium against Manchester City yesterday. A goal each from Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva secured all three points for the Cityzens in the league encounter.
Former England and Premier League manager Sam Allardyce opined that it was due to Emery’s stupid style which enabled Pep Guardiola’s entourage to muster a convincing win. “It is the manager’s fault. It’s his fault. Don’t ask somebody to do against Manchester City what you shouldn’t do. You shouldn’t play out like that against Manchester City,” Allardyce told talkSPORT.
“What do Manchester City do? They press, press, press so why do you try and play out when they press, press, press”? Besides, Allardyce also criticized the former Paris Saint-Germain manager for selecting Petr Cech ahead of summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen Bernd Leno.
He stated: “Even the Arsenal crowd cheered when he [Cech] dropped one in the opposition’s half. You cannot just force ‘the only way to play is this way in this country’”. Emery’s task doesn’t get any easier as he is due to take his side to the Stamford Bridge to face their arch-rivals Chelsea on Saturday for their next Premier League fixture.
