Apology First: Rodgers Makes Huge Comment On Central Defensive Ace

Dedryck Boyata’s rebelliousness caused a lot of uneasiness at Celtic recently. After returning from a productive World Cup campaign with Belgium, Boyata controversially made himself unavailable for the Champions League qualifying fixtures against AEK Athens.

He complained of a back strain but in all honesty, it was arguably due to the interest from Fulham and Lazio to prise him out of the Celtic Park which turned his head. His teammates and Celtic fans were left terribly disappointed by the lack of professionalism from the centre-back.

Intriguingly, manager Brendan Rodgers has taken a strong action against Boyata. The former Liverpool boss has made it clear that Boyata has to first apologize to the team’s staffs and players and only then, he will be allowed to feature for the Celts against Suduva in the Europa League play-off round tie on Thursday.

After his side’s 3-1 win over Partick Thistle in the Betfred Cup, Rodgers was asked about the 27-year-old, to which he said: “Whatever has been said will be internal but of course before anyone will join the group that [an apology] will always have to be the case to staff and to players.”
