Transfer News

West Ham United are looking to sign Besiktas defender, Domagoj Vida. As per reports they have already made their first bid of £22m which was turned down by the Turkish outfit. French giants Monaco have also made an attempt to bring Vida to France but their bid of £26.7m has also been rejected by Besiktas.

After a season full of dissent and disapproval from the fans, West Ham owners are finally putting their money where they should have in the previous campaign. They sacked David Moyes who did just enough to keep them in the Premier League. Former Manchester City manager, Manuel Pellegrini was announced as his replacement.

Pellegrini looked to overhaul his squad after a turbulent season and by the looks of it, has been fairly successful till now. His arrival stimulated the club to spend money. The Hammers have been very busy in this transfer window, making seven new signings. Jack Wilshere, Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko, Ryan Fredericks, Lukasz Fabianski, Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena have already joined Pellegrini’s team.

Getting his signature won’t be easy for West Ham as a number of clubs like AS Monaco, Liverpool and Everton are also keen to sign the Croatian after his impressive performances at the World Cup.

West Ham’s attack looks formidable with the likes of Chicharito, Felipe Anderson and Marko Arnautović but their defence still looks shaky.

DOMAGOJ VIDA -STATS

The Croatian defender won 51.2% of his duels and 48.3% aerial duels at the World Cup.

He made 10 interceptions, 4 blocks and also scored a goal. Vida and Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren formed a solid partnership which helped their side to reach the finals of the World Cup.

WORTH THE MONEY?

The Hammers are in search of a centre-back with Winston Reid and Ogbonna as the only other senior alternatives.

With many clubs interested in the services of the Croatian, West Ham will have to pay a bit more than they would have hoped for the defender. Reports suggest after getting their first bid rejected, they are planning to re-enter the race with an improved offer.

With Monaco’s £26.7m offer also rejected, it means West Ham need to spend in excess of that. While the Hammers are likely to sanction a move, in case the transfer fee crosses the threshold of £30m, Pellegrini has to make a decision on whether the experienced defender is worth that sum.
