Rangers have been one of the busiest clubs this summer as they have gone about the job of bolstering their squad in an unerring manner. The Gers, after the appointment of Steven Gerrard at the helm of the Ibrox Stadium, are breathing a new life and have already signed some quality and proven players like Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor, Jamie Murphy, Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic.
However, Gerrard is still far from being satisfied and is keen to bolster his ranks further before the summer transfer window shuts down. Rangers were not very convincing in their 2-0 Europa League win over FC Shkupi in Gerrard’s first competitive game in charge. Dethroning Celtic from the zenith of Scottish football and enhancing their credentials in Europe are certainly going to be a part of the mission statement for the former Liverpool skipper.
One of the players who has been heavily linked with Rangers is Millwall stopper, Jake Cooper, but the Light Blues have not been able to sign him yet. Evening Standard have reported that Gerrard has been told by Millwall to forget about signing Cooper despite the former’s bid of £3million.
The former Liverpool player has been really invested in the idea of signing the 23-year-old, who has two years left in his contract with his current employers but the Lions are understood to be reluctant to strike him off their books. Although Cooper would have been a big signing for the Glasgow based outfit, Gerrard is keeping his alternatives ready.
As per one of the latest reports by The Scottish Sun, he has put Blackpool defender, Curtis Tilt, on his radar. Rangers are expected to move in for Curtis if they fail to prise Cooper out of the Den. However, it will not be a walk in the park for Rangers to make Tilt sign on the dotted line. Ipswich Town have already seen their bid of £550,000 being rejected by Blackpool as the latter are holding out for at least £1million for the 26-year-old.
Rangers do have Katic and Goldson in their ranks now but both of their playing style is quite similar to each other. Someone like Tilt, who is a ball-playing central defender, could provide a decent option for Gerrard this season and for £1million, he could prove to be a bargain. The towering defender has risen through the ranks of various leagues in England and certainly has the know-how to cater to his defensive duties in a meticulous fashion.
