Harry Wilson has been a subject of interest this summer for two heavyweights of Scottish football in Celtic and Rangers. Both the Scottish Premiership outfits have been desperate to secure a loan deal for Wilson to bolster their ranks for the 2018-19 season but both the interested parties might have suffered a blow in their endeavour.

Wilson has penned a new long-term deal at Liverpool and is keen to impress his manager, Jurgen Klopp, this season. Besides, the former Borussia Dortmund manager is reportedly interested to see one of the most impressive youngsters he has in his arsenal to stay in English football even if he is ultimately shipped out on loan to secure regular game time to ensure that his development graph stays on the ascendency.

Having emerged through the youth ranks of the Anfield outfit, Wilson has not been able to engineer a notable spot for himself under the tactical nous of Klopp. During the 2015-16 season, he spent six months on loan with Crewe Alexandra but it was during his loan spell with Hull City last season which drew the attention of the likes of Celtic and Rangers.

With the Tigers, the Welsh international found the back of the net on 7 occasions and also secured 3 assists to his name in the Championship in 13 outings. It has to be underlined that one of the reasons for Hull City’s survival in the second tier of the English football was due to the dazzling performances which Wilson put on display more often than not.

The 21-year-old is a smart operator with a lot of potential. He is cunning in his attacking pursuits and links up with his teammates nicely while marauding forward. Capable of plying his trade on either wing, Wilson is an astute crosser of the ball and is a set-piece specialist as well. He is a developing footballer and is only expected to get better in the coming seasons.

However, regular game time is a priority for him and due to the demands and expectations of being a Liverpool player and the star-studded first-team squad which Klopp has, he is not expected to feature regularly enough if he is denied a loan move. Although Klopp’s desire is to see Wilson staying in England even if a temporary move materializes, it will be intriguing to see whether Steven Gerrard or Brendan Rodgers manage to strike a deal to rope Wilson to their side.
