Fulham Confirm The Signing Of Bundesliga Star: Another Statement Of Intent? 1

Fulham earned promotion with hard work and a style of play which was appreciated by the football fraternity. And naturally, they will know there is a gigantic leap in the quality of football and Jokanovic has been trying to get players who, he feels, can help the Cottagers stand their ground against the big guns.

Having already signed Jean Michael Seri and Maxime Le Marchand from Nice for a combined deal of £30million and Fabri from Besiktas, they have signed Borussia Dortmund attacker Andre Schurrle.

Despite interest from Crystal Palace to sign Schurrle, it seems that Fulham have had the last laugh.

What will Schurrle add to Fulham?

Schurrle would bring truckloads of experience with him to Fulham. The German international emerged through the youth ranks of Mainz 05 and was then elevated to their senior side. Subsequently, he moved to the ranks of Bayer Leverkusen, Chelsea, Wolfsburg and eventually signed for Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2016. However, his time at the Westfalenstadion has been far from convincing.

Schurrle has struggled due to injuries and lack of form at Dortmund. He was handed merely 18 appearances in the German Bundesliga last season, 11 of which were as starts.

He managed to score just 1 goal and muster 4 assists. However, he had a decent run while at Chelsea and his high point till now has been the World Cup win with the German national side in 2014.

The 27-year-old could be a good option on the left flank, with his ability to cut inside and test the opposition back line. He is an astute crosser, passes the ball well and is quite clinical in front of goal. Schurrle has good pace to burn and test the fullbacks and his work-rate is also commendable.

However, the London based outfit do have Ryan Sessegnon in their squad and it will not be easy for Schurrle to dethrone him from the starting line-up.

Nonetheless, with the move, the German will offer a healthy competition and would also give Jokanovic the option of slotting Sessegnon as the left-back in a four-man defence. Schurrle desperately needs to resurrect his career and a move to Fulham should benefit him.
