Everton Readying New Contract For English Star: Why Silva Needs To Get This Done

Everton

According to Daily Mail, Everton are ready to offer Jordan Pickford a new contract extension amid speculations linking him with a move to Chelsea. The English international has grabbed a lot of eyeballs following an impressive World Cup 2018 campaign that saw him become one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in European football.

However, Everton are understandably eager to clutch onto their star player. As a result, they are lining up an improved contract offer in order to tie him down to a long-term deal.

Pickford, 24, joined Everton last summer coming on the back of a stellar season with Sunderland. Following their relegation to the Championship, the Black Cats were forced let go of their prized asset in a €28 million move to Merseyside.

After arriving at the club, Pickford didn’t fail to replicate his performances with Sunderland as he quickly established himself as the number one keeper for the Toffees. In fact, he was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dire season from Everton, as they failed to compete for the top six.

However, following the arrival of Marco Silva, the Merseyside giants are keen on getting back to the top end of the PL charts. And the contract extension of Pickford could play a huge role as the Toffees aim to make an impression in the English top flight next season.

While Everton have struggled with their goalkeepers for the past few years, Pickford, it seems has solved their problems in that particular department once and for all, thanks to his incredible debut campaign last season. And considering his impressive performances in the recently concluded FIFA World Cup, there’s no doubt that the 24-year-old is a top quality keeper, who can potentially lead Everton back to glory in the near future.

That being said, a move to Chelsea might not be a bad decision as far as Pickford is concerned. The Blues are on the verge of losing the services of Belgian superstar Thibaut Courtois, meaning he is not likely to have any difficulties in slotting into the starting XI.

Chelsea have already shown huge promise under the newly appointed Maurizio Sarri. Thus, a move to West London will definitely be the most logical choice for the 24-year-old as it will not only present him with the opportunity of playing in one of the top clubs in Europe but also to earn a better salary.

So, Everton do need to buckle up and make sure that the machinations are in place to ensure Pickford is not swayed by interest from the big guns.
