Eddie Howe is one of the most intriguing managers to operate in the Premier League and he is set to take his troops into their fourth consecutive top-flight season this time around. Having established their stature, it is about time for Bournemouth to better their credentials and aim for a higher finish in the league standings.
Transfer Speculation
As per one of the recent reports by Football Espana, Bournemouth are keen to lure Levante midfielder, Jefferson Lerma, to the Vitality Stadium this summer. The Sun reported that the Cherries are readying a record bid of £32million to acquire Lerma’s services. They have been negotiating with Levante for weeks and as per the report, Howe’s camp is believed to have readied themselves for tabling the aforesaid bid.
Fact File
Lerma emerged through the youth ranks of Atletico Hulla back in Colombia and was elevated to their senior side after the calibre he showed. In the summer of 2015, he moved abroad for the first time as Levante introduced him to La Liga. Initially signed on loan, the 23-year-old eventually signed a permanent deal with the Spanish outfit and has established himself as a valuable asset for his employers.
Attributes
A central midfielder by trait, Lerma is a strong player and is an astute reader of the game. He reads the attacking endeavours of the opposition meticulously and launches himself into making tough tackles time and again. He is good in the air, is a shrewd interceptor, showcases immense work-ethic more often than not and has the stamina to run up and down the pitch relentlessly.
How Did He Fare Last Season?
The Colombian international mustered 26 appearances last season in the Spanish top flight and managed to bag 1 assist. Besides, he garnered 2 tackles, 1.9 interceptions, 1.4 clearances and 0.4 blocks per game on an average and it is his terrific defensive qualities that seem to have attracted the attention of Howe. He represented the Colombian national side in Russia in the World Cup and earned rave reviews.
Will He Be A Good Signing For Bournemouth?
Howe’s side will strike gold if they manage to make Lerma sign on the dotted line. He has the ingredients necessary to cushion the back line and his introduction should add more steel in the defensive sector. He is physically quite strong and is equipped to deal with the animosity that the Premier League offers but his lack of experience of English football will probably see him take some time to settle if the move materialises.
