Jose Mourinho’s trophyless season at Manchester United might see the club spend big yet again this summer. They are constantly linked with a number of exciting stars for quite a while now and one player who is now closer to a move to Old Trafford is Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

United Make Savic Bid

Having scouted the Serbian international extensively over the last season, Manchester United are determined to land him this summer, with Jose Mourinho running out of options for the midfield roles.

According to sources in Italy, Manchester United have placed a £96m bid for his services. The report also states that Italian side Lazio are holding out on a price closer to £130m. But it is understood that Savic is interested in working with Mourinho, which might play into United’s hands. Should the Red Devils break their bank for the Serbian?

What Will He Bring To Old Trafford?

Known for the tenacity he offers in the middle of the park, the 23-year old is a busy player, who is technically gifted. He has an impressive vision of a defence breaking pass but is equally adept at stopping one, at the other end of the field. He loves to use his strength in and around the box and his ability to dribble and create space for himself makes him much more dangerous.

Standing at 6’3”, he is a genuine presence in both boxes and his ability to score from long rangers makes him a complete player. He is hard working, loves to put his body on the line for the club and is exactly the kind o a player Mourinho loves in his midfield.

His 94 Serie A appearances and the two international of Serbia have shown that he is ready for the biggest stage and will allow him to settle in well at Old Trafford. If he can stick to Mourinho’s plan, he can turn into one of the best in the world in no time.

Where Does He Fit In?

After experimenting with the 4-2-3-1 and the  4-3-3 systems several times last season, Mourinho’s interest in Savic might be a hint at what he wants next season. Nemanja Matic, one of the best in the league, is expected to start most games next season as well and at 29, soon needs a successor.

The Lazio man can follow the footsteps of his national teammates, work as an understudy and cement his place in the first team for years to come. He can also help Mourinho shift to a 4-3-3 with Paul Pogba and Savic on either side of Matic, adding balance to the midfield.

In more ways than one, this move makes sense for the Red Devils and though £131m might be a bit too steep, they should do what it takes to land him this summer.
