Newcastle United keen on signing Manchester United sensation: The right choice by Benitez?

Latest reports by Shields Gazette have linked Manchester United’s blossoming attacker, Marcus Rashford, with a move to Newcastle United this summer. The report states that the Magpies are looking to secure a loan deal for Rashford who found the back of the net for English national side at Elland Road on Thursday.

The English international has fallen behind in the pecking order owing to the availability of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez and it isn’t surprising to see him linked with a move away from the Old Trafford. He is perhaps one of the finest talents English football has on offer at the moment and he needs to play regular football to improve further and not stagnate.

Newcastle United, under the tutelage of Rafael Benitez, fared pretty well in the Premier League last season after their promotion from the Championship. With a limited amount of money and resources at his disposal, Benitez squeezed his options as much as he could. Newcastle managed a top half finish and 44 points from 38 games might not be much but considering how others flattered to deceive, it was a pretty decent return.

The striking department is one of the areas that the former Napoli manager would be aiming to strengthen. Aleksandar Mitrovic was shipped out on loan to Fulham in the second-half of last season and he really dazzled and helped the Cottagers in getting promoted. Reports have emerged stating that the Toon are set to demand upwards of £20million to strike him off their books.

To sharpen up their attack, Rashford would be an astute signing as he ticks many boxes of a clever attacker. Capable of operating from either wing as well as a centre-forward, the 20-year-old holds the ball in a meticulous fashion in the final third and links up well with his teammates.

He has the required pace as well and is ready to lead the line and not be played out wide like Mourinho has done in the recent past.

In 35 appearances in the Premier League last season, Rashford smashed 7 goals and mustered 5 assists. He also scored 3 goals in 8 Champions League games this past season.

A permanent move from Manchester United to Newcastle, considering the current scenario, is pretty hard to see, though. Rashford is still young and will get his chances at Old Trafford, so the Magpies will have a lot of convincing to do if they wish to sign the talented forward, so a loan deal is the way forward.
