Brighton and Hove Albion make a bid for English defender: A good addition to the team?

Brighton & Hove Albion managed to keep their Premier League status intact in what was a roller-coaster season for their fans and the players. Under the tutelage of Chris Hughton, they secured 40 points in the recently concluded league campaign and finished at the 15th spot in the Premier League standings.

However, they have to enhance the quality of their squad before the next season kicks off. One of the areas Hughton seems to be interested in strengthening is the defence. He has already signed two quality defenders in Florin Andone from Deportivo de La Coruna and Leon Balogun from FSV Mainz 05.

Hughton is reluctant to slow down in his pursuit of shaping the club for the better and as per latest reports by Sky Sports, the Seagulls have placed a bid to sign Liam Moore from Reading. The centre-back played for the youth side of Leicester City and then went on to become a key player for the Foxes when they clinched promotion to the Premier League in 2013-14.

While he was at Leicester City, he went out on loan spells to Bradford City, Brentford and Bristol City to gain the experience. In the summer of 2016, Reading made him sign on the dotted line and he was a part of the side that reached the Championship play-off final against Huddersfield Town last season.

During 2017-18 season, Moore was one of the silver linings in what proved to be a forgettable term for Reading in the Championship. The Royals only avoided relegation on the final day of the season and finished 20th in the final standings.

Despite the club’s stuttering form, Moore started all 46 games in the Championship and in the process, he scored 3 goals and registered an assist. Besides, he also made 0.9 tackles, 1. 9 interceptions, 7.3 clearances and 1.1 blocks every game on an average.

Moore, with the experience he has under his belt, will be a decent signing for Brighton. He is a good reader of the game and has the physicality to dominate opposition’s attackers. Besides, he is capable enough to operate from the right-back position as well.

The 26-year-old makes sharp tackles and interceptions and is quite a calm and composed figure at the back. Given that he is acclimatised with English football, he will be able to bring more competition for a place in Hughton’s starting line-up next season.
