Wolverhampton Wanderers could move in for Portuguese attacker: A wise move?

Wolves had a stunning season in the Championship and now the side are looking to strengthen their side so that they can challenge the mid-table sides rather than try and avoid a nervy relegation-scrap.

This past season, neither of the three promoted clubs were relegated as Newcastle United, Brighton and Huddersfield retained their top-flight status. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side scored as many as 82 goals in the Championship, the highest of all the sides. However, the Premier League is going to be a whole different challenge.

Wolves’ centre-forward Léo Bonatini scored just 12 goals in the Championship and that number could further reduce in the top flight unless the side can add a lot more creativity. Or, they can just go and sign a better striker.

Recent reports reveal the side could be after AC Milan forward Andre Silva who has flattered to deceive in the Serie A.

Silva moved to the Serie A from Porto but the move perhaps came a bit too early as he struggled to cope with the competitiveness of the league. It’s not as open as the Portuguese league in terms of style, so that was an extra challenge which was always going to be hard to overcome.

The Premier League, on the other hand, is a much more open in terms of style, so maybe Silva’s numbers will improve. However, it’s always a risk considering scored just twice in 24 leagues games.

Silva – Stats

The 22-year old featured in 24 leagues games for Milan. Despite recording 2.1 shots per game, he managed just two goals which is why the side are contemplating on letting him leave. His record in the Europa League was better though. In 10 games, he mustered six goals.

What do we take away from all of the above? Perhaps Silva needs an arm around his shoulders. He was given just seven starts in the Serie A and eight in the Europa League. The continuity helped him in the European competition.

With agile players like Diogo Jota and Ivan Cavaleiro, Silva could form a better rapport with his teammates than he did at Milan. The squad has quite a few Portugal players, so that could psychologically help him as well.
