The transfer window is open and expect a few deals before the World Cup kicks off. Of course, we get the clichéd statements from the players that they are all focussing on the biggest tournament in the World, but are they really going to just neglect big wages and a move to the Premier League?
Tottenham are likely to be pretty busy and after announcing that manager Mauricio Pochettino has signed a five-year contract, expect the club to make more progress in the summer by signing a few players who can help the club end their wait for silverware.
Latest reports indicate that Spurs are after PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot. The 23-year old is apparently considering his future at the French capital.
Rabiot is contracted with the club until 2019 so the club need to get rid of him in the summer or risk losing him for free in 2019 if he refuses to sign a contract extension. Tottenham’s midfield depth is pretty good but Rabiot could be an upgrade over a lot of the current midfielders at the club.
Rabiot – fact file
Rabiot started 27 games for PSG and a feature predominantly as a central midfielder for the side. Because they have such a talented frontline, a lot of their midfielders are expected to do the dirty work and Rabiot did that pretty well even though his talents like in the attacking third. That’s something that’ll help him at North London if he indeed moves there.
Rabiot averaged 1.8 tackles and 1 interception in the Ligue 1 and was immense with his passing. A player who hardly misplaces his passes (an accuracy of 92.2%), Rabiot could add more fluidity to the Spurs midfield.
Because how good he is technically, Rabiot could help Spurs control games better. Mousa Dembele still has a few good years left in him and Rabiot could be a more long-term prospect in that position.
Still only 23, Rabiot has already lifted the Ligue 1 title four times. He has also won the Coupe de France four times and his winning mentality will help the team in the cups.
Pochettino’s side have fallen short at the final hurdle a few times and the addition of players like Rabiot will help them bridge the gap next season.
