According to latest reports, Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur have become the latest club to join the race to sign Manchester United starlet Anthony Martial.
Following a satisfying season in the English top flight, where they finished third in the final league standings, the Lilywhites are keen to strengthen their attacking department this summer and United’s Anthony Martial has been identified as a top target for head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
The French international has been a subject of a lot of transfer interest in the past few months with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Tottenham vying for his signature. The Red Devils are, in fact, ready to listen to offers for the 22-year-old this summer but are reluctant to let him join a Premier League rival, according to DailyMail.
However, that being said, Tottenham Hotspur might actually have a chance of securing the services of the former Monaco starlet, considering the fact that Manchester United are hugely interested in signing their star defender Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian international is destined to leave London this summer, after failing to come to an agreement with the club regarding a contract extension and the Red Devils are already deemed as favourites to sign the 29-year-old.
This will allow Spurs to make a move for Anthony Martial in some kind of swap deal, which can prove to be a boon not just for Spurs but for Manchester United as well.
Despite playing a key role in United’s success over the past couple of years, the Frenchman isn’t highly preferred by head coach Jose Mourinho, meaning a move out of Old Trafford could be an ideal outcome for Anthony Martial. Manchester United, on the other hand, will also have the opportunity to get rid of Martial whilst signing one of the best defenders in the league in the shape of Toby Alderweireld.
On the flip side, the addition of Anthony Martial could turn out to be an excellent move from the North-London giants. Even though his last goal in the Premier League arrived way back in January, the former Monaco attacker will bring a lot of dynamism in Spurs’ offensive department.
In addition, the 22-year-old will also provide the much-needed depth in the attacking department, especially with Erik Lamela often struggling with injuries while new signing Lucas Moura is yet to get his feet sorted out in the English top flight.
Anthony Martial’s current contract expires at the end of next season, meaning he isn’t expected to cost a fortune either, making him one of the best candidates Spurs could possibly hope for in the upcoming summer transfer window.
