Tottenham Hotspur will host Leicester City in the final matchday of this season’s Premier League as they look to end their respective campaigns on a positive note. With both sides having very little to play for, it will be interesting to see how these teams fare against each other.
Home side Tottenham are currently third in the Premier League table and their sole objective tomorrow will be to seal a victory against Leicester in order to finish above fourth-placed Liverpool. The Lilywhites are in a good run of form and are easily labelled as favourites’ ahead of their highly anticipated clash this weekend.
Leicester City, on the other hand, have been mightily impressive under Claude Puel and the Foxes will look to register two back to back victories against North London opponents, following their 3:1 riot over Arsenal in midweek.
Here are three key head to head battles that might decide the outcome of this game.
Harry Maguire vs Harry Kane
In what will be the battle of the Harrys, Tottenham’s talismanic striker Harry Kane will be desperate to end the season with a goal or two.
However, he’ll be up against the highly impressive Harry Maguire of Leicester City. The former Hull City centre-back has found resounding success since moving to Leicester last summer and his presence in defence could be key as the visitors look to keep an elusive clean sheet against the high flying Spurs.
Harry Kane, on the other hand, is expected to lead the charge for England in the upcoming FIFA World Cup and ending the season on a positive note might just help him boost his confidence prior to the start of the tournament.
Riyad Mahrez vs Danny Rose
The future regarding Leicester’s superstar winger Riyad Mahrez is also insecure, with the player being highly linked with a move out of King Power Stadium in the summer. Therefore, it might as well be the last game for the Algerian international, who has played a valuable role in the club’s rise in the past few years.
Interestingly, however, Mahrez will be up against Danny Rose, who might also play his final game for Tottenham amidst reports of a possible switch to Manchester United this summer. The England left-back will be keen to impress Jose Mourinho and other possible suitors, with a strong performance against Leicester City this weekend.
Moussa Sissoko vs Adrien Silva
And finally, the onus will be on Spurs’ fringe player Moussa Sissoko to stop the dynamic Leicester City midfielder, Adrien Silva.
Sissoko, who turned out to be one of the awful signings for Tottenham in recent years after making a move from Newcastle in 2016, is expected to start this weekend, due to the expected absences of Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele and Victory Wanyama, all of whom are doubtful for the clash.
The Frenchman will be looking to prove a point with a strong performance this week, particularly against Leicester’s midfield duo of Adrien Silva and Hamza Choudhury.
