As per one of the latest reports by Daily Mail, Swansea City are moving closer to securing the signature of Liverpool’s blossoming youngster, Yan Dhanda. The Reds are likely to lose the services of Dhanda as the starlet is reluctant to extend his contract with his current club owing to fierce competition, which has alerted Swansea City.
Liverpool lured Dhanda to Anfield from West Bromwich Albion’s academy for £500,000 back in 2013, although Chelsea were also understood to be interested. He was the first player of Indian heritage to have joined Liverpool and a lot of expectations were nested on his shoulders. He had clinched the Up and Coming Player at the 2013 Asian awards and has been faring well in the Under-23 level for the Reds.
Dhanda scored a last-minute winner against Manchester City and also found the back of the net twice in the 5-1 hammering of Chelsea whilst plying his trade in Premier League 2 and the football fraternity has been keeping close tabs on his growth and development. However, the 19-year-old is aware of the competition for a place in the starting line-up of the senior side of the Merseyside-based outfit.
It is apparent that he is desperate to get regular first-team opportunities under his belt and thus, he is keen to move elsewhere. Apart from Swansea, two other Championship sides, namely, Bristol City and Leeds United have also put him on their radar to integrate him into their first-team and thus, it will be interesting to see which club has the last laugh this summer.
Swansea City got relegated from the top flight and it goes without saying that they will be introspecting and will look to amend their loopholes by strengthening their arsenal during the summer transfer window. It is believed that the club is desirous to operate with ‘total football’ style in the second tier in the upcoming season to pave their way back into the Premier League. A move to a Championship club should benefit Dhanda as well.
The Birmingham-born midfielder has excellent technique and has the ability to control the ball in a shrewd manner. Besides, he has proved his mettle in the youth sides and will be a good addition for Swansea City, who are expected to shell out £100,000 for the teenager. Besides, Liverpool have also asked for a 20% sell-on clause to be inserted, as per the reports, and it will be intriguing to see what is in store for Dhanda.
