The Gunners did not fail to deliver in Arsene Wenger’s last ever game at Emirates as they put in a five-star performance to bid their beloved manager a farewell. Arsenal are already guaranteed a place in the Europa League next campaign and have very little to play for in the last two games of the league season. But starting with the trip to King Power, these two games will be historically etched as the last two that Wenger manages in England.
So the players will be pumped up when they take on Leicester City in the penultimate game of the season. The Foxes have won just two of their last 12 games in the league and also have nothing to play for this season. But Claude Puel will want his side to retain their place in the top half of the table and will want his side to avenge back to back losses against Crystal Palace and West Ham, in the run into this game. Arsenal are guaranteed a sixth-place finish but Wenger will also want all three points from this game. Here is the predicted lineup Arsenal might field for this clash.
Team News:
In early team news, Mesut Ozil joins Santo Cazorla and Laurent Koscielny as long-term absentees as all three players will only play for The Gunners in the upcoming campaign. Mohamed Elneny, who is also ruled out for the season, is the only other absentee for this game for Wenger.
Expected lineup (4-3-3):
Defence:
Petr Cech had a comfortable night against Burnley in the 5-0 victory and will be eyeing another clean sheet against a misfiring Leicester side. Calum Chambers has been a regular in the back line recently and might retain his place while Shkodran Mustafi, who was an unused substitute at the weekend, might add some experience to the backline.
Hector Bellerin might be rested, giving Ainsley Maitland-Niles a shot at right-back again while Sead Kolasinac, who picked up a goal against The Clarets, might keep his place at left-back.
Midfield:
Granit Xhaka is Wenger’s best option in the no.6 role and the Swiss international will keep his place in the side for this tie. Aaron Ramsey came on as a sub in that game but might be used from the start against The Foxes.
Jack Wilshere was withdrawn early at the weekend and could retain his place in the first team, to complete Arsenal’s midfield.
Attack:
Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang both found the back of the net in the last game and will start up front yet again. Alex Iwobi might be used in a more attacking role, giving Henrikh Mkhitaryan a break.
Here is how they might line up:
