The transfer window is already open and Everton are one of the sides who are expected to be pretty busy. Last summer, the Toffees spent a lot of money but they failed to challenge the top sides in the league.
European qualification was on the agenda for Ronald Koeman but the Dutchman had a woeful beginning and was subsequently sacked and replaced with Sam Allardyce.
Allardyce was given the boot a few weeks ago, however, and his replacement is likely to have a few million quid to stamp his authority on the squad. Latest reports reveal that the Merseyside outfit are eyeing a move for Tottenham Hotspur fullback Danny Rose.
A subpar season for Rose
After making a bold statement during the beginning of the season, Rose suffered an injury that kept him out for large parts of the season. That, coupled with Ben Davies’ impressive form for the North London club meant that Rose found it hard to get back into the side when he was fully fit.
With Davies doing well for the team, Rose’s future at the club looks bleak. To get more regular first-team football, he might have to now take a step back in his career as Manchester United have sort of backed away from the player according to reports.
Everton should make the best use of the opportunity as the 27-year old is still a pretty good fullback and will suit the Toffees well.
An ideal replacement for Baines?
Leighton Baines has been a reliable left-back for Everton in the last few years but he needs to be replaced in the ongoing transfer window. He is 33 already and his performance levels haven’t been the same. Rose, on the other hand, still have quite a few good years left in him and Everton is perhaps the best project for Rose to resurrect his career.
Rose made just 100 appearances during the recently concluded Premier League season and managed one assist in the process. His best return while playing for the club was during the 2014-15 season when he managed to score thrice and assist four times.
A pretty agile left-back, Rose has a good starting position. He’s an accomplished defender and at the same time, can put in a mean cross or two. With Cenk Tosun leading the line, Rose’s crosses could cause the damage in the attacking third.
