Why Chelsea Should Steer Clear Of This 41-Goal Ligue 1 Star In The Upcoming Transfer Window

chelsea lineup

Antonio Conte’s future at Stamford Bridge is far from rosy but that has not stopped the club from looking at potential stars who can get them back to their best next season. There are a number of star players extensively linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer and the latest name doing the rounds is Edinson Cavani.

Cavani Wanted By Chelsea:

Having constantly been linked with an exit even at the start of the season, Edinson Cavani stands as the top goal scorer for PSG this season but continues to be linked with an exit this summer. Reports from Italy claim that Chelsea are keeping a close eye on the Uruguayan international, and are convinced that he is the right man to replace Spanish star Alvaro Morata, who has struggled in England.

It is understood that the former Real Madrid man is desperate to move back to Turin and it is reported that Cavani is the name Chelsea are looking to replace Morata with. So is Cavani the right choice for The Blues?

Cavani And His Goal Scoring Record:

Standing as the top goal scorer for Ligue 1 for the second season running, the 31-year old has been in devastating form this season for the French Champions. He had a fall-out with Brazilian star Neymar Jr at the start of the season but seems to have accustomed well to acting as the second fiddle and has managed 41 goals and seven assists in all competitions this season.

A deadly finisher, who is strong in the air and with his hold up play, the former Napoli star is a crucial part of the Uruguay squad that travels to Russia later this year. He has 42 goals in 100 appearances for his national side and is easily one of the most experienced strikers in world football at the moment.

He can be a superb target man and can play off the shoulder of the final defender, a system Conte uses at Chelsea.

How Much Sense Does This Move Make?

It is reported that Chelsea want Cavani as a replacement for Morata if the Spaniard decides to leave. Chelsea will surely raise the funds needed to sign Cavani but they might not be able to spend on another striker, leaving them with just two options for the next season.

While Olivier Giroud has been in decent goalscoring form for the Blues recently, they need a player who can play two games a week regularly and Cavani might not be such an option anymore. At 31, he is not going to play every game every week and though he might be a game changer in the league, he is just not what they need at the moment.

Olivier Giroud has shown that he can act as the target man for Chelsea whenever called upon, so Conte or the Chelsea hierarchy are better off looking at strikers who fit the bill and are long-term options as well.
