Arsenal join the race to sign highly rated Napoli midfielder: Will he add more balance?

Premier League giants Arsenal have joined league rivals Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to sign Napoli’s Jorginho, according to reports. The highly-rated midfielder is apparently a subject of a lot of transfer interest across top teams from Europe with his current deal at the club expiring in 2020.

Jorginho has been identified as the top target for Pep Guardiola but the Sky Blues could face some stiff competition from fellow English teams. Arsenal, in particular, are expected to undergo a busy transfer overhaul this summer with head coach Arsene Wenger set to leave the club at the end of the season.

Having been linked with a series of top managers around Europe, the Gunners will definitely hit the reset button this summer as the new manager looks to start a new era at the Emirates. This will likely include the signings of a host of star players in the summer.

In fact, Arsenal have already got rid of few of their unwanted players, earlier this year including Theo Walcott and Francis Coquelin and will do their best replace them in the upcoming transfer window.

Jorginho, therefore, could prove to be a great acquisition for the North-London giants, considering the fact that the Arsenal midfield was left a bit shallow following the sale of Francis Coquelin. In addition, there have been questions raised regarding the long-term future of Jack Wilshere amidst links with AC Milan, meaning the addition of the highly talented Brazilian midfielder could be imperative for Napoli.

Highly known for his industrious style of play in the centre of the pitch, Jorginho could dominate the Premier League, largely thanks to his immersive style of play. The 26-year-old is someone who can not just offer industry into the Arsenal midfield but also provide a great deal of balance.

With Granit Xhaka often failing to form a formidable midfield unit with Aaron Ramsey, Jorginho’s presence could rectify their imbalance in the middle third of the pitch. His ability to properly shield the defensive line coupled with his tendency to also move forward and join the attack is tailor-made for a club like Arsenal.

According to reports, Jorginho’s future with Napoli could depend on the fate of head coach Maurizio Sarri, who is apparently a candidate to replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal next season. The Italian mastermind has played a critical role in the development of the Brazilian midfielder and the Gunners could possibly be very successful in the future, should they manage to sign both Sarri and Jorginho this summer.
