Why Chelsea should make a move for this Portuguese attacker in the summer

Why Chelsea should make a move for this Portuguese attacker in the summer 1

Former Premier League champions Chelsea could have a key transfer window coming up in a few months’ time. After a subpar season that could end with them without Champions League football next season, they will have to fight to keep their better players and at the same time improve their squad.

One player who they can try and sign is Goncalo Guedes. The 21-year-old is currently playing for Valencia, on loan from PSG, and has enjoyed an excellent season in the Spanish top flight.

Since moving to Spain at the start of last season, Guedes has quickly emerged as a key attacker for the Spanish giants. His tally of four goals and 11 assists in just 29 matches has helped Valencia stay comfortably within the top four places.

Chelsea are expected to undergo a busy summer ahead, following a disappointing second season under head coach Antonio Conte. Currently dawdling in Europa League places, the Blues are also expected to appoint a new manager this summer with Antonio Conte being destined to leave Stamford Bridge come the end of the season.

The London giants have failed to assert their dominance in the Premier League this season, often struggling throughout the course of this campaign. Lack of offensive thrust has mainly been the problem for Chelsea, especially after the departure of star striker Diego Costa.

New signing Alvaro Morata is yet to make a big impact in the Premier League while the likes of Pedro and Cesc Fabregas has also been inconsistent this season. In addition, Belgian superstar Eden Hazard is being linked with a move out of Stamford Bridge in the summer with Real Madrid showing a keen interest.

Therefore, it’s clear that the Chelsea squad needs some freshening up this summer and the addition of Goncalo Guedes could be a step in the right direction for the Blues.

The Portuguese sensation has been in excellent form in La Liga this season and is finally living up to his much-hyped potential. However, that being said, the 21-year-old might still struggle to get regular game time at his parent club PSG next season, largely due to the presence of Neymar, Angel Di Maria, Julian Draxler amongst many others, meaning the youngster might look for a way out of Parc des Princes this summer.

Chelsea would be an ideal destination for the former Benfica youngster, who was earlier touted as the next big thing in Portuguese football. Considering Chelsea’s lack of players in the offensive department, Guedes will have no such difficulties when it comes to finding proper playing time.
