West Ham United Express Interest In Leeds United Ace: Ideal Player For Moyes?

Premier League outfit West Ham United are keen to sign Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson, as per Guardian journalist Ed Aarons.

West Ham, who were initially expected to impress at the start of this campaign, have been one of the most disappointing teams in the league this season. Although the club might have done just enough to stay in the top-flight next season, it’s probably wise to point out that their defence has yet again been absolutely horrific this campaign.

Only Watford and Stoke City have conceded more goals than the Hammers this season.

Therefore, the London giants will definitely look to strengthen their defensive department in the upcoming summer transfer window and a move for Pontus Jansson could be a step in the right direction.

Jansson, who moved to Leeds, following a superb season on loan at Torino, is highly regarded as one of the best defenders in the Championship at the moment.

This season, in particular, the Swedish centre-back has been an ever-present figure in the Leeds backline, making 39 appearances. In fact, his solid performances have quickly helped him emerge as a fan-favourite at Elland Road this campaign.

Largely known for his commanding presence in the centre of the backline, Pontus Jansson could be an excellent addition to West Ham United. Standing at 1.94m, his presence in defence can be intimidating for any attacker in the world. In addition, the Swedish defender has also popped up with some important goals throughout the course of the season, which reflects on his capability as a defender.

Furthermore, the former Torino man also boasts of international experience, having earned 14 caps for the Swedish national team. In fact, the Leeds United defender also captained his national side in the game against Romania and is expected to play a big role in the upcoming FIFA World Cup this summer.

Although West Ham can avail the services of some highly talented defenders, they do lack the presence of someone who can facilitate things at the back. In that regard, the 27-year-old could find resounding success alongside the likes of Winston Reid, Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell.

Pontus Jansson’s current contract with Leeds United expires in 2022 but considering how good he has been this season, a big money move to the Premier League could be on the cards for the Swedish defender, who looks all set to make the next step in his career.
