West Ham United have had a pretty forgettable season thus far. While performances on the pitch have been disappointing after quite a lot of expectations last summer, the scenes off the pitch are in shambles.
The situation is annoying for the West Ham fans at the moment as they don’t have anything to look forward to. The team has been abject and they are unsurprisingly voicing their opinion against the board which has run the club ineffectively so far.
The move to the new stadium was supposed to be the dawn of a new era but it has been the same old story so far. While they have a decent team, the toxic atmosphere has put a lot of pressure on David Moyes.
The next summer transfer window will be key for the East Londoners as they’ll need to make a statement. Keeping their better players will help but the addition of more quality is imperative as they find themselves just five points above the relegation zone.
The transfer window is a few months away but reports indicate the club could be after Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson. Bournemouth themselves aren’t safe yet and are barely four points above West Ham.
The Cherries will only sell the forward for a fee of 25 million pounds and that might be a bit too much for a player who has had injury issues in the last few years.
Not a gamble West Ham need to take
The club aren’t in a situation from where they can take a gamble. The likes of Sofiane Feghouli (sold to Galatasaray), Andre Ayew and Javier Hernandez struggled with injuries after making the move to the London Stadium and they need someone on who they can rely on.
Wilson is a pretty speedy customer up top and has been a key player for Bournemouth. Eddie Howe’s side play on the break and the pace they have up front has troubled even the best sides in the Premier League. At West Ham, he won’t necessarily be getting that. That, coupled with his average Premier League goal-return means West Ham are better off spending the money on some one else who can guarantee at least 15 goals a season.
Wilson’s best goal-return in a Bournemouth was in the Championship three years ago. He mustered 20 goals from 45 games but has struggled to find the back of the net on a regular basis in the Premier League. He has scored just seven times so far this season.
