Should Manchester United risk losing Paul Pogba and David De Gea for Cristiano Ronaldo?

Jose Mourinho revealed that Manchester United will not be busy in the transfer market this summer but that has not stopped the club from being linked to some of the finest stars in Europe. But no story has gathered as much attention as a recent claim from Spanish media outfit Diario Gol, who report that Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo may yet move back to Old Trafford.

Mourinho Ready To Move For Ronaldo

The Red Devils have a decent attacking unit but lack the firepower to beat the best in Europe. They will need a few additions this summer but Ronaldo will be a sensational one. But Diario Gol have run a story this week saying that Mourinho is desperate to land Ronaldo and is ready to give up two-star players from his side.

Spaniard David de Gea, already extensively linked with a move to Bernabeu and Paul Pogba, recently linked with an exit are two players Mourinho is ready to give up, as a part of the deal to land Ronaldo. So does this deal make any sense?

Can United Afford To Lose Either?

As much excitement, creativity and general winning mentality that Ronaldo will bring to Old Trafford, it is worth asking the question if he merits losing arguably the best players in their particular roles.

De Gea, who has been the most consistent player for the Red Devils for over a couple of years now, is almost irreplaceable. He has been the backbone of this United and has bailed them out of tough situations time and again. There are very few players who can replicate that at Old Trafford and that will need United to spend big.

Pogba, who has not been in form this season, is easily one of the most gifted midfielders in the game at the moment. He needs to step up quickly and at 25, can no longer take time to come to fore. The next season could be crucial for his career and United will want him at Old Trafford when he might be at his best.

Neither player can be easily replaced in the first team but losing Pogba might not be the end of the world for United and is the only deal that makes sense.

Chances Of This Deal Going Through

As outlandish as the rumour may sound, United’s desperation to land superstars who can have an immediate impact on the first team, makes this attainable. Pogba or De Gea, United will lose a gem of a player but might be exchanging him for immediate success, which has usually been Jose Mourinho’s way.

But a recent report from Spanish journalist Guillem Balague reveals that Ronaldo will be offered a new deal soon and that he might be ready to sign one. So chances of this deal going through are slim but this is not the end and we will be hearing a lot about this proposed move before the transfer window deadline day later this year.
