Transfer Story:
Chelsea have endured a torrid season; funnily enough, I write this just a couple hours after their spectacular comeback win against Southampton. However, overall they have struggled quite a lot in the league and hence it is apparent that the squad lacks quality in some parts of the pitch. Particularly, the midfield needs some fresh faces, as the middle of the park looks bleak many times and hence the good folk over at Daily Mail says that the Blues will make a move for OGC Nice’s midfielder Jean Michel Seri.
The Ivorian has been heavily touted with a move away from the club, and deservedly so. His performance has dipped a bit this season, but we all know that every player struggles when his heart is not at the club.
Seri: A deep-lying magician
Seri is a modern-day ‘regista’ of sorts; as in, he likes to play deep into the field and create crisp attacking moves from there. He plays through the centre and possesses a plethora of talent that enables him to dictate play from the middle of the field. He is athletic enough to press the ball and recovers the possession of the ball effectively well. Seri is composed with the ball at his feet and can pick out incisive passes at dangerous areas. His close-control is commendable, as he can get the ball out of cramped spaces owing to his dribbling skills.
Seri interlinks well with his teammates and can play a quick succession of passes to burst into the penalty box. Due to his immense pace, and the ability to keep hold of the ball despite being hounded upon by the opposition, Seri drives the team ahead as soon as he recovers the possession too. Blending his delicate touch and passing ability with the athleticism and stamina, he has the talent required to excel in the Premier League. This season, his performances have been inconsistent, but bet on him to pick up his form when he gets his desired move away from France.
Should Chelsea make a move?
Chelsea’s midfield relies on Cesc Fabregas to provide the creative impetus and the veteran has been very inconsistent in doing that this season. Fabregas has lost a yard of pace, and his defensive positioning has been poor too. Couple that with lack of creativity and sloppy passing and the whole midfield finds itself in trouble. Tiemoue Bakayako has been extremely poor too, as the former AS Monaco man has delivered disappointing performances regularly.
Ross Barkley has been injured consistently as Danny Drinkwater provides physicality and very little creativity as such. This gives us a clear picture that Seri will be an excellent addition to the squad and will directly force his way into the first-team. At his age, Seri will provide a long-term midfield solution to the team too and hence the board should not refrain from making a bid for him.
