Arsenal Keen To Sign English Defensive Rock: Just What The Doctor Ordered For Wenger?

Arsenal Keen To Sign English Defensive Rock: Just What The Doctor Ordered For Wenger? 1

Arsenal have a decent chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season through the Europa League and Arsene Wenger will believe that his side can go all the way this season. He is already looking at players who he can add to his side this summer and the latest name doing the rounds is Harry Maguire.

Leicester City Open To Maguire Sale:

The former Hull City defender has been in decent form for Leicester City this season and has been a transfer target for the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United in the past. And reports now claim that Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have also joined the race for his signature at the end of the season.

It is understood that Leicester City have already knocked back offers of up to £40m and are in no mood to lose their asset any time soon. But an impressive time in Russia can push the English international’s price sky high and The Foxes could be interested in making a profit on his sale. So is Arsenal the right club for Maguire?

Maguire And His Chances At Arsenal:

A ball-playing defender who got his first taste of Premier League football with Hull City, Maguire failed to keep the Tigers in the top flight last season and moved on to Leicester City for around £17m. He replaced Robert Huth in the first team immediately and has started every game for the former PL champions this season.

He has been effective against even the best of strikers in England and has shown great confidence in even the toughest of games. He is strong and tailor-made for the English game and his ability with the ball at his feet has certainly helped Leicester this season.

Arsenal have Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, both of who are not long-term options. Shkodran Mustafi has not been impressive while Rob Holding and Calum Chambers have a long way to go before cementing their place in the first team.

Maguire, at 25, can not only walk into the side but can also start a legacy for years to come. But is the right man for the Gunners?

Right Man For The Gunners?

A CB with impressive dribbling and passing range is a huge asset to any team. His defensive abilities have been evident for more than a season now and Maguire is a serious contender for the first XI in Russia for the Three Lions.

He is ready for the biggest stage and will be a decent coup for the Gunners. As already mentioned, Wenger is expected to be actively searching for a CB this summer and Maguire will not be a bad investment.

The likes of Jamaal Lascelles and Jose Gimenez are linked extensively with a move to Emirates this summer. The Atletico Madrid man will not be easy to lure and will also be expensive while Lascelles does not suit Arsenal’s system as much as Maguire. So the Leicester man seems to be a safe bet for the club.
