West Ham United have found no consistency what so ever this season and are currently struggling in the 16th place in the points table. They will look to finish the season strongly and David Moyes will believe that his side has what it takes to compete with the best next season.
He will have to add some quality to his side before that and one name that the club continues to be linked with is Bundesliga star, Nicolai Muller.
West Ham Can Open Talks With Muller:
According to reports in Germany, Hamburger SV, who are currently struggling in the drop zone in the German top flight, are not expected to offer Muller a contract extension any time soon. The 30-year old will be a free agent at the end of the season and West ham can open talks with him already, over a pre-contract ahead of the summer.
FC Schalke are also interested in his services but can only start negotiations after the end of the season. So should West Ham look to snap up Nicolai on the free?
Who is Nicolai Muller?
A product of the Frankfurt Academy, Muller spent three long years at Mainz before he was snapped up by Hamburg back in 2014. Ever since, he has been an integral part of the squad, picking up 17 goals and 16 assists in 87 appearances across all competitions for the club.
He is an experienced campaigner, who already has 163 Bundesliga appearances and is a versatile player, most clubs would love to have. He started the season with a bang, scoring on the first day of the season but tore his ACL with an overzealous celebration, that has kept him out of action till date.
He is back in training and should be fit and ready for the start of the next season and may no longer be in Germany at that time.
A versatile winger, who can also play as a support striker, the 30-year old is known for his deadly finishing in front of goal. He is strong in hold up play and smart with his positioning while his ability to create chances with short passes and through balls makes him that much more dangerous.
He can drop deep and help in build-up play or add numbers and presence in the final and at his age, is just the kind of a player clubs would love to have in their side, to call upon in crunch times.
Chances At West Ham:
The Hammers wanted Muller even before the start of the current season but with him being a free agent this summer, they are expected to go all in this summer. The Hammers have a number of utility players in attack already and now need specialist wingers or strikers to turn things around at London Stadium.
Muller does not fit that requirement but is tailor-made for Moyes’ style of play and coming for free, is a risk worth taking.
