Tottenham were surprisingly active in the January transfer window where they signed Lucas Moura from PSG. Despite the fact that they are constructing a stadium, they are expected to continue spending in the summer as well, though it might not be as lavishly as the two Manchester clubs.
It is important for Spurs to make sure that they sign quality players so that they have a squad that would be fit and in form to play to their best of abilities. In a way, it is necessary too as with the kind of talent that they possess, Spurs need to win trophies soon. To do that, they need to sign better players they are a bit short right now.
Ricardo Pereira is being linked to move to North London this summer as Mauricio Pochettino looks to strengthen his midfield. The FC Porto player plays in the right side of the midfield and it is a clear testament to the fact that the Lilywhites think that the depth in their midfield is bleak.
Pereira: Quite Versatile
Pereira is 24 years-old and plays as a midfielder for the Portuguese club. He is quite versatile and can be played as a defender too. He has been very consistent this season as Pereira has played 21 games in the Portuguese League and has scored twice while having assisted thrice. He drives the team ahead by shifting to the centre and creating space for the forwards. His passing range is very widespread and hence Pereira easily picks up his teammates with his vision and ball carrying ability.
Defensively too, Pereira is very strong and completes 3.1 tackles in each game. He wins the ball back from the team and hence allows an easy transition from defence to attack. Pereira intercepts the ball a decent 1.7 times in each game and this shows that the lad is defensively active throughout the game. He delivers around 1.1 key passes in each game and this shows that the player is a proper box-to-box player who puts his heart in both aspects of the game.
Should Spurs make a move?
Mauricio Pochettino demands his players to maintain a high work ethic and Pereira will willingly fit that bill. He puts his heart in the field and will propel in the English league due to his commitment, work ethic and the ability to be decisive on both ends of the pitch. Spurs lack a reliable core of players in the midfield. It is important for someone to add more steel and versatility at the middle of the park. The board seems to be addressing every issue in the squad and hence it is important to make sure that they bulk up their midfield ahead of the next season.
