Transfer Talk:
Sergio Aguero has not always been one of Pep Guardiola’s favourites since the Catalan boss arrived at the blue half of Manchester. Pep likes his forwards to be mobile, agile and he likes them to have good movement in and around the box. Aguero is more of a natural goal-scorer rather than anything else. The Argentine is a safe finisher in front of the goal and has been amongst the goals this season. However, Pep usually prefers Gabriel Jesus to Aguero whenever the former is fit to play.
This shows that agility and movement are important aspects of a striker that Pep demands. In the modern era, Karim Benzema has emerged as a striker whose off the ball movement has helped Cristiano Ronaldo thrive in the created space and then amass goals for fun. Now, Don Balon seems to believe that Pep would make a move for his old adversary.
Karim Benzema: A Genius or a Deadwood?
Karim Benzema’s importance to Real Madrid has always been understated due to the exuberant brilliance of Cristiano Ronaldo. Benzema has had a stellar career for Real Madrid as his ability to create space for Ronaldo, play precise and accurate balls into the box and the tendency to drop down a line to link up play have been crucial for their success in the past few seasons.
Frequently, he comes up with some noteworthy performances that determine the club’s success in the season. Last time around, he had a great game against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League; something, which was integral to the team’s run in the Champions League. Even the manager Zinedine Zidane rates him highly as the presence of Benzema directly impacts Ronaldo’s performance too.
However, Benzema’s finishing ability has waned away in the past few seasons. He fails to finish off easy chances and seems to mess up a lot in front of the goal. This season, he has scored only four goals in 23 appearances in the league; a figure that is shambolic for a forward of Real Madrid. Hence, should the club persist with him just because of the fact that he makes Ronaldo’s game better? Especially when CR7 is 33 and would not have many years of football ahead of him?
False News:
Don Balon is one news outlet whose transfer rumours can hardly be believed. The Spanish news agency has been lambasted in the past for their illogical rumours. Though Benzema looks poised and polished to set in Guardiola’s system, his goal-scoring form has been astonishingly worrying since the past few seasons. Hence, such a transfer looks highly unlikely to take place. Real Madrid might persist with the Frenchman as long as Ronaldo keeps banging in those amazing goals.
