Jurgen Klopp’s men may have fallen to a defeat at Old Trafford but they are in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League next season. They are already welcoming Naby Keita at the end of the season but could lose Emre Can to Juventus, making them active in the transfer market, in search of another midfielder.

One such midfielder, who is linked with a move to Anfield is Real Madrid star Luka Modric.

Modric Wants PL Return:

According to a report from Spanish news outfit Diario Gol, Luka Modric wants to follow Gareth Bale back to England and is ready to quit Real Madrid at the end of the season. Los Blancos are themselves plotting a spending spree in the summer and Modric wants out before he falls down the pecking order.

The story claims that both Arsenal and Liverpool are interested but Modric could prefer the London club, after his time with Tottenham Hotspur in the past. But with the North London rivalry an issue in that deal, should Liverpool look to sign Modric?

Modric And His Legacy:

Standing as one of the best, most respected and most decorated midfielders in the game at the moment, the Croatian international started his youth career at Zagreb and spent four prolific years at Tottenham Hotspur, before he was signed by Real Madrid back in 2012.

In his career, he has won three Champions League titles and three Croatian titles, to add to a La Liga title but failed to lift any silverware in England. At 32, he is an experienced midfielder, with 159 La Liga appearances, 127 PL appearances and 67 UCL appearances and will probably walk into most teams in Europe.

A central midfielder with nifty footwork and a natural desire to win the ball back, Modric is a technically gifted technician, who loves to run the tempo of the game from the middle of the park. He can turn away from danger with slick touches and expansive passes and is usually very protective of the ball.

He can create chances, finish them off but can also sit back and defend when needed and his midfield tenacity is what makes him a dangerous player. Even at 32, he has been exceptional for Real Madrid, who are currently in the middle of an average season.

Right Man For Liverpool?

The only issue with this transfer would be his age, which might not permit him to play for more than a couple of years. The Reds have the likes of Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner next season for the two midfield roles in front of a DM in a 4-3-3 system.

They could lose Emre Can and might have to spend on a no.6 but should give Modric a try, as he is exactly the kind of a player they lack in their squad. The Reds do not have winners in their squad at the moment. They hardly have any players who have won as much as Modric has and his presence in the midfield might be what they need to lay their hands on the coveted league title.

Klopp might want to stick with a young, energetic presence in the midfield but Modric is the kind of player who can win games from nothing and is definitely a player Liverpool should look to buy this summer.
