Huddersfield Town have announced that Jonas Lossl will join the club on a permanent basis in the summer after the clause of his loan agreement was triggered. Lossl has been ever-present between the sticks for the Terriers this season after his loan move from German Bundesliga outfit, FSV Mainz. The 29-year-old has really impressed the fans and his employers with his exceptional performances under the bar and no wonder Huddersfield Town have decided to sign him permanently.
Lossl is one of only two players to feature in every second of top-flight football for David Wagner’s side this campaign, which is a testament to how much Wagner has relied on him. He has played 30 games in the league so far this term and has notched up 8 clean sheets, making 2.47 saves per game on an average. His side is currently placed at the 15th spot in the league standings, with 31 points to their name from 30 outings, and are 4 points above the relegation zone.
His contributions have been notable and he has really played a key role in giving his side the opportunity of staying above the relegation zone. Huddersfield Town have made a shrewd move, for Lossl has truckloads of experience under his belt and he ticks most of the boxes. He emerged through the youth ranks of Kolding IF and FC Midtjylland and made a name for himself after he was promoted to the senior side of the latter.
After that, he was signed by Guingamp, where he stayed for a couple of seasons, before moving to Mainz in the summer of 2016. Wagner saw the potential that Lossl had showcased and after Huddersfield Town’s promotion to the Premier League for the first time, he lured him to the Kirklees Stadium in the summer. He has plied his trade with the youth sides of Denmark and played for the senior side on a few occasions.
Lossl is unarguably a solid shot-stopper and his tall and strong physicality enables him to deal meticulously with the crosses and set-pieces. He was criticized for his poor distribution of the ball during his time in Germany but after his move to England, he worked on it and has improved his communication skills with the backline.
