Tottenham Hotspur are in contention for a top-4 finish this season and Mauricio Pochettino has added some freshness to his squad having signed Lucas Moura a week ago. The Brazilian will add more guile to Spurs’ attack but the squad needs some polishing. So it does not come as a surprise that they are already planning for their business in the summer transfer window.
One player that will be on the top of their wish-list is Fulham star Ryan Sessegnon.
Tottenham’s Interest In Sessegnon
A transfer target for the English outfit for more than a year now, Sessegnon is easily one of the most exciting teenagers in the English domestic circuit and continues to be linked with an exit from Fulham. It is understood that Fulham were adamant about not letting him go in the summer and in January but have placed a £30m price tag on his services.
Most clubs in the English top-flight are interested in Sessegnon and could make a move for him at the end of the season but should Spurs beat them to the Fulham man?
Sessegnon And His Potential
A product of the academy at Fulham, the 17-year old first broke into the senior side in 2016 and has already established himself as the first choice left-back at the club, making 54 Championship appearances to date. He has 14 goals, which is an astonishing return for a full-back and is widely considered one of the hottest prospects in England.
He also has 14 appearances for the England U19 side and is ready for the biggest stage. An attacking minded full-back with gifted technique and great understating of the game, the teenager is a natural dribbler, who loves to take his man on. He has a keen eye for goal and can also set up chances with his crosses and through balls.
He has shown great strength for a 17-year old and is also getting better by the game in defending aerial passes. He is usually a step ahead of his opponents and is a serious star in the making. He has 11 goals and 4 assists in the Championship this season and will be a sensational addition to any top-flight side.
Is Tottenham His Best Destination?
With the biggest clubs in England interested in his services, Sessegnon’s future might be in his own hands. At his age, he will want to sign for a club that he can play regular football at and there are quite a few of those in the Premier League. Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are all desperate for a quality left-back and Sessegnon can solve any of the club’s problems.
However, Jose Mourinho’s man-management might rule the Red Devils out but the charisma of Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp will be hard to choose from. But at Anfield, Klopp already has Alberto Moreno and Andrew Robertson fighting for a first-team spot, making Spurs a better choice.
Pochettino allowed Kyle Walker to leave the club in the summer and replaced him with Serge Aurier at right-back. He might lose Danny Rose this summer and Sessegnon will be a more than able replacement. He will have to fight for his place in the first team with Ben Davies but at 17, Sessegnon has enough time to establish himself as the first choice under the Argentine manager, who is never afraid of giving youngsters some exposure.
