Manchester United are lagging behind the best team in the country — Manchester City — and Jose Mourinho is convinced that he needs to add more star players to his lineup, to try and get them to compete with the best next season. This has seen a number of world-class stars linked with a move to Old Trafford and one name now doing the rounds is Real Madrid star Isco.

Mourinho Desperate For Isco

According to the latest story from Spanish news outfit Don Balon, Jose Mourinho has made the Spanish midfielder his top transfer target for the summer transfer window this year. The 25-year old is also wanted by Pep  Guardiola’s Manchester City, who are reportedly leading the race but Mourinho is convinced that he is the right man for his side and is ready to spend big to get him to Old Trafford.

He has a whopping €700m release clause in his current contract with Los Blancos but it is understood that he is unhappy with the playing time at the Spanish capital. He has been extensively linked with an exit, which might reduce his price, but is the right man for Mourinho?

Isco And His Style Of Play

An excellent dribbler with great technique and understanding of the game, Isco is one of the best playmakers in Europe at the moment. His slick passing, inventive movement, smart positioning and a cool head on his shoulder all make him a dangerous player, one of the hardest to mark in the final third.

He is exquisite with his passing, creates chances galore in every game and is more than capable of finding the back of the net with ease. He is adept at playing in the space between the midfield and the backline and is usually devastating when given any space or time on the ball.

The physical aspect of the game is not his strength but more than makes up for it with his positioning and technique and is a player who will walk into every squad in Europe.

He is an integral part of the Spanish national side that travels to Russia later this year and has already made 24 international appearances for his side, picking up seven goals. To add to it, he has made 219 La Liga appearances already, picking up 44 goals and 42 assists and is an established star, at the age of 25.

The Right Man For Manchester United?

The Red Devils are desperate for creative midfielders, who can help unlock defences that sit deep in the Premier League. Their record signing Paul Pogba has been effective but the lack of an attacking playmaker is still visible, even after the signature of Alexis Sanchez and Isco fits the bill well.

He can play in behind Romelu Lukaku in a 4-2-3-1 system under Mourinho, with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic or a new signing behind him, giving mettle and creativity to United’s midfield.

The likes of Lukaku, Pogba, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof, the spine of this United squad, are still in the early stage of their career and Isco will be a senior presence in this side and will love his time at United.

Mourinho’s tactics can be blamed but he can get his United side play to the strengths of the Spanish playmaker, which can turn the team into one of the best in Europe. But do you think they should break the bank for his signature?
