Be it Burnley’s grit or Arsenal’s sublime firepower, Premier League didn’t disappoint this week as well. There were offensive prowess of highest order and resilient defensive showing by one side or the other. Here are three players who we feel had performed to the best of the potential this week in the league of riches and competitiveness.
-
Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Aaron Ramsey might have stolen the show in Arsenal’s thumping 5-1 win over Everton on Saturday but arguably, it was Arsenal’s newcomer, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who deserves a special mention. Coming from Manchester United, it is really not easy to fit into a new system, but the Armenian international had other ideas.
The 29-year-old notched up a hat-trick of assists and showcased his creative prowess and ability to tear opposition’s defence apart with his vision and passes. His touches were sublime, he kept galloping forward to create chances for his teammates time and again and seamlessly acclimatised himself to Arsene Wenger’s tactical nous.
-
Aaron Lennon
Burnley hosted table toppers, Manchester City, at Turf Moor and Sean Dyche’s men churned out a point from the fixture. It was a splendid result for Burnley and the player who really did well was Aaron Lennon. Signed by the Clarets from Everton last month, Lennon has already started to make his presence felt.
The 30-year-old looked incredibly sharp and garnered a substantial amount of attacking prowess for his new employers. He made a good use of his pace, precision and power and his direct play injected a breath of fresh air to the side. Lennon kept carving out openings for his teammates, was industrious and was unlucky not to have capped a fine outing with a goal to his name.
-
Mohamed Salah
One of the prime reasons why Liverpool have been stupendous this season in their attacking endeavours is due to the quality that Mohamed Salah has offered. The Egyptian attacker has absolutely dazzled under the stewardship of Jurgen Klopp and had another great outing at Anfield, this time against Tottenham Hotspur.
In big games, every club desires its key players to step and Salah didn’t beg to differ. The 25-year-old smashed two goals against Mauricio Pochettino’s troops and showed notable anticipation, composure and grit in the final third. His second goal was nothing less than pure brilliance and he would certainly play a major part in ensuring that Liverpool finish inside the top-four spots this season.
