Everton are sitting in the ninth place currently and would look to finish the season at least in the top half of the table, though, their expenditure in the last two transfer windows demanded much more. The Toffees have been ridiculously inconsistent, insipid and toothless at times, though their new signings have shown that they have the capability to propel the team to greater heights in the future. Against Watford though, they would fancy their chances and they really do need to get all 3 points against teams in the lower half of the table.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Defence:
Jordan Pickford has been let down by Everton’s mediocre defence frequently this season but the English international has shown flashes of his commendable shot-stopping skills when called upon.
Michael Keane will lead the defence from the centre along with the experienced Ashley Williams and both the players need to step up their respective games if the Toffees are to have a respectable finish.
Kenny and Cuco Martina will play as the two fullbacks in the back four.
Midfield:
Idrissa Gueye is undoubtedly the cog that keeps Everton’s midfield going as his defensive contributions and the tendency to link the defence with the attack from deeper areas help Everton a great deal. Tom Davies and Wayne Rooney will take up the other two-midfield slots. Davies likes to make darting runs forward, while Gueye holds the fort for Everton. Rooney has been in decent goal-scoring form, and more often than not, Everton’s forward moves flow through him.
Attack:
Theo Walcott has made a positive start at Everton and has found regular playing time. He has scored two goals and has grabbed one assist in four matches for his new team. He essentially plays on the right flank and troubles the opposition with his pace and clinical finesse in front of the goal.
Gylfi Sigurdsson was one of the marquee signings in the summer but has taken his own sweet time to settle down. He has found his feet lately and will be one of the more important players going forward.
Oumar Niasse will lead the line and the oft-criticised striker has given a tough competition to Cenk Tosun so far. Niasse scored and assisted once in Everton’s victory over Crystal Palace in their last game and would hope to continue that form against Watford today.
