Transfer Speculation

As per a recent report by ESPN, Everton are understood to be desirous to sign PSV’s dazzling youngster, Steven Bergwijn, in the summer. Everton would justifiably look to strengthen their attacking arsenal in the summer and have thus rightfully put Bergwijn on their radar. Apart from the Toffees, Tottenham Hotspur are also closely monitoring the starlet, which spices up the scenario further.

Fact File

Bergwijn emerged through the youth ranks of ASC Waterwijn, Ajax and PSV and after proving his worth whilst he was in the ranks of Jong PSV, he was pushed to PSV’s squad. Besides, he has featured regularly for the various youth sides of Netherlands and owing to the calibre he possesses and the productivity he has shown, he has been a subject of interest amongst the football fraternity.

Will He Be A Good Signing?

The Dutch sensation plies his trade as a winger and is comfortable on either wing. Besides, he can even operate as a false no.9 and his attacking prowess, considering his age, is quite appealing. He is an excellent dribbler and has the requisite pace in his legs to not only pop up in the right area at the right time but also to stretch the defensive line of the opposition.

The 20-year-old loves to cut inside from the flanks and shoot fiercely from the edge of the box. He creates a lot of space for himself and has the required technical ability to come up with the spectacular time and again in the final third. Added to that, he is quite strong at retaining the ball and with his passes and vision, he brings his teammates into the equation as well.

Bergwijn knits the side together meticulously in the final third with his short passes and he keeps the opposition defence on their toes. So far this season, he has managed to accumulate 22 appearances in the Eredivisie, in which he has scored 5 goals and has also notched up 4 assists to his name. Besides, his pass completion rate of 84.2% is very good for a winger.

However, he lacks the experience of Premier League, where a lot of world-class players have failed to make their presence felt. Moreover, he is far from being a finished product and needs to cater to the defensive responsibilities of his side in a better manner and has to be more dominant in the aerial duels especially if he moves to England.
