Swansea City will be looking to capitalize on their win over Burnley, last week, as they travel to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
It will be the first return for ex-Sheffield and current Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal to the Hillsborough, ever since his appointment as Swansea coach. His former club Sheffield Wednesday haven’t fared well in the Championships this season, dawdling in the wrong of the table.
Swansea City, however, have been in excellent form, of late, remaining unbeaten in their last nine matches, a streak which has propelled them to the 15th place in the Premier League table. The Swans have gotten the better of Liverpool, Arsenal and Burnley in recent weeks and will be full of confidence as they face Sheffield Wednesday this week.
Here’s the predicted Swansea City lineup to feature against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup.
Defence
Kristoffer Nordfeldt is tipped to start as the man between the sticks for the Swans. The Danish keeper has featured in goal for Swansea in the previous FA Cup matches and will be desperate for his second clean sheet of the competition.
Head coach Carlos Carvalhal is expected to revert to a four-man backline this week against Sheffield Wednesday, meaning Federico Fernandez might have to settle for a place on the bench as Alfie Mawson and Mike van der Hoorn start as the central defensive pairing for the Swans.
Right back Kyle Naughton will remain in the starting lineup but there may be a first-team opportunity for young Connor Roberts, who returned from his loan spell with Middlesbrough earlier this year.
Midfield
Carlos Carvalhal will be without the services of key midfielders Renato Sanches and Leroy Fer, meaning the midfield duo of Sam Clucas and Tom Carroll are both expected to start at the heart of the Swansea midfield.
New signing Luciano Narsingh will be deployed as the right-sided midfielder while Wayne Routledge, who has played only 321 minutes of Premier League football this season, might be given a berth in the starting lineup. The 33-year-old will start as the left-sided midfielder for Swansea this week.
Attack
The absence of star striker Wilfried Bony will be a huge blow for Swansea but at the same time, it will also pave way for youngster Tammy Abraham to lead the attack for Swans this week. The 20-year-old scored twice in their 8:1 bashing of Notts County in the fourth round replay.
Nathan Dyer will accompany Tammy Abraham in the attacking department but in a slightly deeper position.
