West Bromwich Albion are really struggling to find their feet in the Premier League this season. The Baggies are currently placed at the 19 spot in the league table with merely 16 points to their name after 22 games. They are currently well in the midst of a relegation dogfight and the coming weeks are going to be sterner. And one way to try and combat it is to get new recruitments to add firepower and freshen things up.
The January transfer window holds paramount importance for them as it would allow them to make the necessary ramifications to inject more quality into their ranks and also to ensure that they don’t lose their prized assets. Besides, the animosity in the second half of the season would be humungous and this makes the need to lure the right players to the Hawthorns so very important.
As per one of the latest reports by The Birmingham Mail, West Bromwich Albion are desirous to make Trabzonspor’s forward, Hugo Rodallega, sign on the dotted line this month. Albion are understood to have tabled a bid of £5million to get hold of his services. Scoring goals has been one of the major issues for them this season and there is no doubt that this has played a massive role in their current state.
They have found the back of the net merely 16 times and the firepower they have at their disposal has really failed more often than not to hit the mark. Salomon Rondon and Jay Rodriguez, their prime attackers, are their joint leading goal-getters so far this season, with 3 goals each across all competitions. The midfielders have failed to bury their chances and no wonder Alan Pardew is desperately looking for the possible targets he can manage to sign.
However, their apparent interest in Rodallega doesn’t make a lot of sense. The former Columbian international is arguably past his prime and might not be a stupendous addition. He might have found the back of the net on 11 occasions in 15 appearances across all competition in Turkey but asking him to operate as a striker for a relegation-threatened club in the Premier League doesn’t sound like the best of ideas.
He might have plenty of experience of English football, having plied his trade for Wigan Athletic and Fulham, but he has never hit more than 10 goals in one Premier League season. The Throstles should instead look elsewhere if they really want to upgrade their attack and seriously look to improve their current state.
