West Bromwich Albion might have earned a point from their trip to the Goodison Park on Saturday as Everton struggled to breach the resolute defence of the visiting side, with the game ending in a 1-1 draw, but they are still far from safety. The Baggies are currently in the relegation zone and the players, as well as the manager, have to show great unity in the coming months to ensure their survival in the Premier League.
Finding the back of the net has been a major cause of concern for Alan Pardew’s side, as they have managed to score merely 19 goals in 24 games, which is really unacceptable and they must beef up their attacking arsenal this month to better their league position. Pardew must make some quality additions this month and as per one of the latest reports by Daily Mail, West Brom are targeting Watford’s Troy Deeney in a bid to do just that.
Deeney is expected to cost £25million along with weekly wages of around £70,000-per-week, and with the apparent likelihood of exits of Jonny Evans and Jake Livermore, Albion should be able to generate enough cash to engineer a move for Deeney this month. They do need a goal-getter of fine calibre and Watford forward should be a welcome addition to their ranks.
Andre Gray had been Marco Silva’s preferred striker so far this season, due to which Deeney’s stature at the club had reduced considerably. Although Silva was recently sacked, Deeney won’t find it easy to get back into the first team action. The Englishman has been able to muster just 8 starts in the top flight this season, apart from 7 appearances off the bench, and has managed to score merely 2 goals and get 2 so far.
Deeney might fancy getting more game time under his belt and a move to the ranks of West Brom should be an appealing choice for him to bring his career back on track.
The 29-year-old has truckloads of experience of English football under his belt and is physically a strong player who knows how to hold the ball in the final third. He is a clinical goal-scorer, is strong in the air and links up well with his teammates.
Salomon Rondon has done a decent job but perhaps the Baggies need some freshness in their lineup and Deeney’s aggressive approach should help them retain their league status.
