West Bromwich Albion in with a chance to sign experienced German attacker: A good move? 1

West Bromwich Albion are linked with a move for Andre Schurrle as reports have emerged that Borussia Dortmund are open to a loan move for the player, who wants regular game time with the World Cup in a few months time.

The current Borussia Dortmund attacker has failed to live up to his hefty price-tag of €30m, which made him the most expensive Dortmund acquisition ever, in the summer of 2016.

Following a series of unfortunate injuries, Schurrle has struggled with lack of game time during the most part of his BVB career. Since his big money switch from Wolfsburg, the attacker has made only 35 appearances for Dortmund, during which he has lost his place in the national team as well as being constantly overlooked by the likes of Thomas Tuchel, Peter Bosz and Peter Stoger.

With players like Marco Reus, Mario Gotze and Maximilian Philipp returning to full fitness, Schurrle’s chances of establishing himself as a first-team regular at Dortmund is next to impossible. Therefore, a move out of Signal Iduna Park could be ideal for the 27-year-old.

West Brom, in particular, could be hugely aided by the addition of Andre Schurrle. The West-midlands outfit have struggled with their lack of offensive thrust this season. Only Brighton and Hove Albion have scored less than West Bromwich Albion so far this season, meaning the Baggies are in dire need of some offensive reinforcement.

Andre Schurrle has already shown what he is capable of, during his previous stint at Chelsea, where he scored 14 goals in 65 appearances. Although he was deemed surplus to requirement later on, Schurrle can definitely make a big difference at any Premier League club.

His sheer pace coupled with his remarkable tenacity is perfectly suited to the tactical philosophy of coach Alan Pardew. Furthermore, the German International is quite an experienced campaigner as well, making almost 250 appearances in both English and German top flight combined. While his pace is perfect for a counter-attacking team like West Brom, his knack of scoring goals could also prove to be very handy for the Baggies. In addition, Andre Schurrle’s partnership with Sturridge will be the one to watch out for with the Englishman recently signed from Liverpool.

The Baggies have generally managed secure midtable finishes with the odd above-average season thrown in between but with the alarm bells ringing in January, Pardew has to come up with the goods sooner rather than later.
