Swansea City eyeing a £25m move for La Liga star: Can he solve their goal-scoring woes? 1

Swansea City have been struggling to pick up momentum in the Premier League this season and are currently placed rock-bottom in the league table with 17 points from 23 games. If such timorous performances from them continue, they are likely to drop to the Championship

With the second-half of the season likely to throw more challenges, the Swans must make ample use of the ongoing January transfer window in order to add more quality to their side. They do need some galvanising additions to ensure they at least some sort of a good run that’ll give then the chance in the coming months.

In a bid to do that, the club have identified Kevin Gameiro as a possible transfer target. As per one of the recent reports by The Sun, the Wales-based club are set to place a club-record bid of £25million to lure Gameiro to the Liberty Stadium. Carlos Carvalhal’s side have indeed been sluggish in the attacking half, and have found the back of the net merely 14 times so far in the league, which is quite unacceptable. They really need a quality striker to weigh up their attack and are desperate to land the French international.

Who is Gameiro?

Gameiro is a centre-forward who currently plies his trade for La Liga giants, Atletico Madrid. So far this season, he has made 7 starts and 5 substitute appearances for the Red and Whites and has scored 4 goals in the process.

The 30-year-old has truckloads of experience under his belt, for he has played for Strasbourg, Lorient, Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla in the past and has proven himself to be quite a quality poacher inside the box. He is a clinical finisher and his ability to link up with the midfielders means he won’t just be a unidimensional purchase for the Swans.

One of the stumbling blocks in Swansea City’s pursuit to make him sign on the dotted line is interest from Turkish giants, Fenerbahce. Although Carvalhal’s side are willing to meet Gameiro’s asking price, Fenerbahce are willing to offer higher wages. However, considering he is still 30 and has a few good years left in him, the opportunity of playing the Premier League might be hard to turn down, even though it’s Swansea who are interested.

The Welsh side have money to spend after selling the likes of Llorente and Sigurdsson for big money last summer, so it’s about time they sign someone who can at least make them look like a Premier League side!
