Sunderland keen to sign Leicester City midfielder: Can he turn their season around? 1

Transfer Speculation

According to a recent report by Chronicle Live, Sunderland are interested in signing Leicester City’s Andy King on loan for the rest of the season. Claude Puel had made it clear that he would not mind sending King out on loan so as to bag more game time and this might have alerted Sunderland to place him on their radar.

Fact File

King came up through the youth ranks of Chelsea and Leicester City and was eventually promoted to the senior side of the Foxes. He received his first professional contract from Leicester City back in 2007 and he has been with them ever since. Besides, he has been a notable player for the Wales national side as well.

Current Scenario

Sunderland have been abject this season and are languishing near the bottom of the pile. Relegation in successive seasons would not go down very well with the fans and if their current trend of abjectness doesn’t cease to exist, they might suffer disastrous consequences at the end of the season.

Chris Coleman has an uphill task ahead of him to guide his team to the safe zone and has to make the most of the remaining hours left in this transfer window. His desire to sign King makes a lot of sense, for he is a proven player who can really add to the quality in the ranks of the Black Cats and bring some freshness.

So far this season, the midfielder has been handed 5 starts and 6 substitute appearances, during which he has scored 1 goal. The 29-year-old has been getting overlooked by Puel and a move away from the King Power Stadium, albeit on loan, should help him in reshaping his career for good. Coleman needs someone experienced and the Welshman should do a fine job if he is shown some confidence.

A Good Deal?

Sunderland do not have huge financial muscle and thus, a loan deal should be really beneficial for them. King would arguably get to play more if his move to the Stadium of Light materialises, whereas Sunderland are going to get a player who is an excellent reader of the game, has the pedigree, makes shrewd blocks and tackles and is good in the air. Given that Puel would not mind shipping him out on loan, it would be a good deal for all involved.
