Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino has confirmed that the club is ‘pushing’ on a move for Spartak Moscow’s Quincy Promes. The Dutchman is one of the hottest attacking talents in the Russian Premier League and could soon move to the Premier League this January with the Saints hugely interested.
The 26-year-old has been in excellent form this season, scoring ten goals and assisting six in the Russian League. According to reports from Sky, the player is keen to move to the Premier League. However, Spartak have reportedly slapped a price tag of £30m on the Dutchman.
Head coach Mauricio Pellegrino has already shown a lot of intent of spending the £75m received from the sale of Virgil Van Dijk, having brought in Guido Carrillo from Monaco last week. Quincy Promes seems to be another desired player for the Argentine mastermind as he confirmed earlier this week.
The former Liverpool target could be an ideal buy for Southampton considering their struggles in the offensive department this season. While the likes of Shane Long, Manolo Gabbiadini have failed to find the back of the net, star player Dusan Tadic has been heavily linked with a move elsewhere.
Quincy Promes’ presence in the team will not only boost their attacking department but also improve their creativity in the final third. His pace coupled with his ability to score goals often becomes a handy asset for any team in the world. In addition, Quincy Promes is quite an experienced attacker with over 100 appearances in the Russian Premier League while being a regular for Spartak in the Champions League this season. He has also won 25 caps for the Dutch National team, in which he has scored four goals.
His partnership with the likes of Nathan Redmond and Dusan Tadic out wide could be fundamental in Southampton’s desired rise in the second half of the season. Furthermore, his presence could also allow playmaker Sofiane Boufal to have more freedom in the central areas of the pitch.
Overall, Southampton will be hugely boosted by the addition of Quincy Promes, who, in the past, has attracted the interest of several top clubs around Europe. Amidst rumours regarding Dusan Tadic or even Nathan Redmond’s potential transfer away from the club, Promes can be an ideal acquisition for the Saints, who will look to recover from their awful 2017 campaign during the remainder of the season.
